In 2023, CAMPO launched Garzon en Focus with Montevideo-based artist María Agustina Fernández Raggio, who visits rural school Nº 16 once a month to teach visual arts and production techniques to 10 children between the ages of nine and 12 inspired by this year’s theme, Radical Nature: The Roots of Land + Water.
Argentine-born María Agustina Fernández Raggio is a multidisciplinary artist based in Uruguay. Her work reflects on the sociability of culture and the symbolic rites that traverse communities. She studied at the Pedro Figari School in Montevideo; at the Instituto Universitario Nacional de Artes, Buenos Aires, Argentina; and at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes in Montevideo, Uruguay.
She has been an artist-in-residence at the Grand Union Gallery, Birmingham, England and a promoter of the project Residencias en Movimiento with destination Antarctica. The results of the latter, were exhibited at the Cultural Center of Spain, Montevideo; Sofia University, Bulgaria; Museo del Agua, Buenos Aires; and Museo de las Migraciones, Montevideo. For the III Biennial of Montevideo held at the Palacio Legislativo, she participated with her work Cinco Retratos Digitales. She has been awarded with the 56th Gran Premio Nacional de Artes Visuales José Gamarra and the First Prize of the 58th Linda Cohen National Salon of Visual Arts.
